Prince William, Kate Middleton become first Royals to launch YouTube channel

'Be careful what you say now because these guys, they're filming everything,' William says. 'I know!' replied Kate.

Kate Middleton has found her niche behind the camera. Pictures of her, husband Prince William and their three children – Charlotte, George and Louis – are occasionally shared on the official Instagram account of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, providing more of an insight into the everyday life of the Royal family. In a first, however, it seems like Kate is finally ready to face the camera.

The power couple recently announced the launch of their upcoming YouTube channel, with a compilation video posted on the photo-sharing platform. The highlight reel shows Kate and William attending a number of high-profile events over the past years, peppered by a few wacky interactions between the two.

The video starts out with William cheekily telling the Duchess, "Be careful what you say now because these guys, they're filming everything." Kate replies with, "I know!" The 25-seconds-long montage progresses into music and then quickly switches cutsinto video footage –William serves spaghetti; Kate meets children and the couple attends red carpet events and wave at the cameras. "Better late than never – we're now on YouTube Link in bio," reads the video's accompanying caption.

The pair’s pivot to the video platform is likely one of the many ways Prince William is planning to “modernise” the monarchy when he becomes king. “William is already thinking about the future of the monarchy and the changes he’ll make,” a source reveals in the latest issue of the Us Weekly. “While he respects protocol, he plans to modernise some aspects and is making it his mission to be more relatable than previous generations,” the insider adds.

Although the YouTube channel may be new, the Royal couple has been releasing videos of themselves and their family for quite some time now. Most recently, in honor of their 10th wedding anniversary, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s Instagram handle released an adorable video of them with their children, captured at the family's country home, Anmer Hall. In the clip, the family of five can be seen running around the property, roasting marshmallows and playing on the beach. Kate and William posted the video alongside a heartfelt message.

"Thank you to everyone for the kind messages on our wedding anniversary. We are enormously grateful for the 10 years of support we have received in our lives as a family. W & C," they wrote. During their early years of marriage, Kate kept her distance from major monarchy events but was gradually integrated into her future duties, and is widely seen to have flourished as a working royal, and as the family's unofficial photographer.

She and William have been especially active during the past year of lockdowns, from baking goods for local vulnerable people to carrying out video calls, supporting key workers and promoting mental health initiatives.
