‘Drug trafficking rampant in Sindh’

The opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh has charge sheeted the provincial police in a letter written to the Sindh inspector-general of police (IGP), on Thursday. "…drug trafficking is rampant in all the major and minor cities of Sindh which is destroying our young generation and spreading infectious diseases," he wrote.

"Many families are falling apart due to the drug trafficking." He alleged that the hashish, heroin, opium, ice, gutka, mainpuri and other narcotics material are being traded with impunity in the province.

He further alleged that trafficking in many cities of Sindh has been happening in connivance with the police who rake in millions of rupees bribe every month. He referred to the operation of the Anti-Narcotics Force in Mirpurkhas district during which narcotics worth around Rs1.71 billion was found at the residence of police inspector Kunwar Singh on March 23.

He pointed out that moonshine liquor, which is toxic raw liquor is also being openly sold in the cities of Sindh in collusion with the police. The opposition leader proposed that a district-based task force also comprising of well-known civil society representatives should be formed to steer the police action against the drug trafficking.
