Three injured in firing by Customs officials
Three persons were injured in firing by Customs officials in Kharadar in the wee hours of Sunday.
According to the Kharadar Police, Customs officials raided Bolton Market in the early hours of Sunday on reports of the sale of smuggled goods. The officials broke into the shops and were seizing goods they claimed were smuggled, when shopkeepers reached the market and tried to stop them, the police said, adding that the official opened fire as a result of which three persons were injured.
The injured men, identified as Shafiqur Rehman, 35, Ainuddin, 45, and Muhammad Yousuf, were rushed to Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital for treatment.
The Kharadar Police claimed that Customs officials had not fulfilled the legal requirements of carrying out a raid in the area.
The police had not been informed of the raid beforehand, the law enforcers said.
The police said a case against the official would be registered after initial investigation and the recording of the injured men's statements. ‘
