Another 124 test positive in Rawalpindi

Vaccination for the age group 50 years and above is underway at 24 centres of the district

Another 124 people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus in the Rawalpindi dictrict.

According to health officials, 24 Covid infected patients belong to Rawal Town, 28 Potohar Town, 22 Rawalpindi Cantt, 15 Gujar Khan, eight Taxila, two each Kalar Syeda, Kahuta and AJK, four Chakwal, seven Islamabad and one each from Kotli Sattian, Attock, Haripur, and K-PK.

Meanwhile District Health Coordinator for Covid-19, Dr Jawad said, that vaccination for the age group 50 years and above is underway at 24 centres of the district. He said the vaccination centres were operating in two shifts during the month of fasting. The first shift runs from 10am to 4pm and the second one from 9pm to 1am, he added.

He advised the citizens to avoid crowded places, stay at home and follow safety measures issued by the government

In total, 181,045 Covid suspects have been brought to the district's health facilities, out of which 22,995 cases were tested positive, including 21,194 from Rawalpindi and 1,801, he added.

According to the daily situation report issued by the District Corona Management centre, results of 1,723 people were awaited. The data showed that 1,114 people have died so far with 849 from Rawalpindi and 265 from other districts.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA) on Saturday impounded 11 public service vehicles for flouting the inter-provincial transport ban on weekends. The transporters were embarking passengers after hiding their vehicles behind the Faizabad bus stand, Secretary ITA Asma Sanaullah told media.

She said ITA teams were conducting regular inspections at various bus terminals and wagon stands to ensure the implementation of Covid-19 standard operating procedures. The teams were taking action against overcharging, overloading, route completion and route permits.
