RAWALPINDI:

The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Wednesday recovered more than 30,000 counterfeit branded beverages bottles in a raid on two manufacturing units in Rawalpindi. The bottles carried the labels of famous brands.

More than 30,000 bottles were recovered from the factories producing the spurious drinks. The counterfeit had been produced for sale given the increasing demand for beverages during Ramazan. The substandard products were to be supplied to different areas of Rawalpindi.

A PFA spokesman said the seized bottles were destroyed on the spot while the factories were sealed. He added consumption of such beverages could lead to various deadly diseases in the people who break their fast after more than 14 hours.

In other operations, PFA imposed fines on 17 restaurants for maintaining poor hygiene while four dairy shops and two ice cream units were penalised for using substandard milk.

The spokesman said the PFA was making efforts to provide quality food to citizens in Ramazan.

For this purpose, operations were being carried out across the province to suppress the mafia making spurious foodstuff and maintaining quality in shops selling foodstuff.
