Rizvi tells supporters to call off protest
Hafiz Muhammad Saad Rizvi, head of the banned Tehreek-e-Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLYR), has issued a message to the members of the party’s Majlis-e-Shura not to indulge in any illegal activity and call off their protest demonstration and sit-in immediately.
“I, Hafiz Saad Rizvi, the son of Late Khadim Hussain Rizvi, address all workers of the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLYR) and members of its high council… with the appeal not to indulge in any illegal activity in the best interest of the people and the state,” he said.
“All protest demonstrations and roadblocks should be immediately called off. All workers should return to their homes in a peaceful manner,” the message read.
“Full cooperation must be extended to the law enforcement agencies. The protest demonstration and sit-in staged in front of Masjid Rehmatul Alimeen should also be called off immediately.”
Saad Rizvi, leader of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), was detained hours after making his demands, bringing thousands of his supporters to the streets in cities across Pakistan.
Two police officers died in the clashes, during which water cannon, tear gas and rubber bullets were used to hold back crowds.
