Cell set up for profiteering complaints

More than Rs1.12m worth was issued to more than 570 grand vendors and shopkeepers across the province

Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for the Bureau of Supply and Prices, Dr Khatu Mal Jeewan has said that a cell has been set up to register complaints against profiteers and hoarders.

The complaint cell is set up at the office of the Director of the Bureau of Supply and Prices, Jeewan said while talking to people who came to his office to complaint about high prices of essential commodities during the fasting month.

Jeewan said people can register their grievances in the cell from 9am on telephone number 02199244607 and 02199244608 while consumers can also register their grievances in the offices of the district administration.

A crackdown has been launched and officers of Bureau of Supply and Prices were conducting raids in collaboration with the district administration to take action against profiteers and hoarders. Jeewan said that on the first day of Ramazan, more than 2,700 shops, fruit and vegetable sellers and other food vendors were checked across the province.

More than Rs1.12 million worth was issued to more than 570 grand vendors and shopkeepers across the province. Giving details he said that 137 profiteers in Karachi division were fined more than Rs690,000 while 435 profiteers in other districts of the province were also fined more than Rs424,000.
