ICT police recover stolen items worth Rs15.5m

The Islamabad police accelerated its efforts to make the city crime-free and to secure the lives and property of the citizens. In this regard, the Operations division made renewed efforts and arrested 232 suspects during the past week and recovering looted items worth Rs15.58 million, a spokesperson said on Sunday.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Dr Syed Mustafa Tanveer said that 33 culprits were arrested for being involved in burglary and car or motorcycle theft cases while looted items worth Rs11.08 million were recovered from their possession, including three vehicles and four motorcycles.
During the same period, 32 absconders were held while challans of 172 cases were sent to the courts concerned, he added.
Dr Tanveer said that the capital police had launched a special campaign against drug dealers and bootleggers, including those selling drugs in educational institutions. During the campaign, the police nabbed 23 accused and recovered 12.285 kilogrammes of hashish, 682 grammes of heroin, 86 grammes of cocaine, more than 200 pills of ecstasy and 560 grammes of ice-meth.
Besides this, 14 accused were also held for possessing illegal weapons while the police recovered 13 pistols, one gun, one dagger and 94 cartridges from their possession. The SSP emphasised that besides the law-and-order situation in the capital, police accelerated their efforts against criminals and 128 accused involved in crimes of different nature were also arrested.
He directed all Sub-Divisional Police officers and Station House Officers for effective crackdown against those involved in drug peddling activities. He further asked for renewed efforts to curb such practices and get rid of society from this menace.
Dr Tanveer reiterated that safety and security of the citizens is our prime responsibility and officials showing laxity in their duties would not be spared. He said that performance in this regard would be reviewed on a regular basis.
"All police officials should focus on resolving the public complaints and take every possible step to provide maximum relief to citizens," the SSP stated. He added that criminal elements would not be spared and those involved in such anti-social activities would have to face action as per the law. He also appealed to the citizens to cooperate with the police in curbing anti-social elements.
