LAHORE:

Muhammad Muazzam Salman, an 11th grade student of the Lahore American School, is preparing to present his drone project in an international competition in the United States after winning accolades at the National Science and Engineering Fair.

"My aim is earning fame at the international level by winning an award for my project," he said while speaking to The Express Tribune.

"The government should support educational institutions in setting up modern laboratories with advance engineering equipment so that our youth can compete at the global level."

Salman recently participated in the National Science and Engineering Fair in which he presented the drone produced by him. The project impressed the judges of the competition and won the top award in the engineering mechanics category. It was also among the eight overall grand winners.

Sharing his endeavours and future plan, the prodigy said, "I am the youngest among three siblings and my father is an engineer in Pakistan Air Force. It was my wish since my childhood to produce a drone and electronics was my hobby.

"For the past two years, I had been making preparations for the project and during the whole of the last year I did a lot of work on it. I myself purchased the electronic components and machinery from the Hall Road market. All the parts were arranged locally and nothing was imported."

He said his father and teacher Sajida Bukhari had helped him but he had done most of the work himself at home.

"My drone's design is innovative and my dream is to use it for public welfare in future.”
