SSP says 207 criminals held in a week, looted items recovered

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Dr Syed Mustafa Tanveer said on Monday that the Islamabad police has accelerated its efforts against criminals and arrested 207 suspects during the past week with a huge recovery of looted items worth Rs16.06 million.
SSP (Operations) told that 39 culprits were arrested involved in dacoity, robbery, and car and motorcycle theft while 35 absconders were held during the same period. Complete challans of 170 cases were sent to apex courts concerned, he added.
Dr Tanveer further said that police launched a special campaign against drug sellers and bootleggers to eliminate the menace from the federal capital. During this campaign, 16 accused have been nabbed and 44.308 kgs of hashish, 290 grams of heroin, 9.616 kgs of opium and 243 wine bottles were recovered from their possession.
The SSP maintained that 20 accused were also held for possessing illegal weapons and recovered 20 pistols and 70 rounds from them. He emphasised that police accelerated their efforts against proclaimed offenders and arrested 97 criminals involved in crimes of different nature.
Dr Tanveer reiterated that criminal elements would not to be spared and those involved in such acts would have to face action as per law.
He appealed to the citizens to cooperate with police in curbing such activities. He appreciated the performance of the officers involved while directing further measures against anti-social elements.
