RAWALPINDI:

The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has failed to complete several long-standing projects besides ensuring the implementation of orders it has previously passed.

Important development projects, including RDA Complex, RDA Housing Scheme, and Fawwara Chowk have not been able to proceed beyond their approval. The authority had further pledged to stop illegal constructions but to no avail.

Roughly, some eight out of 10 commercial buildings in RDA-controlled areas are illegal while it has been observed that no notice is served to unauthorised constructions until they are completed.

Moreover, the RDA Complex, the RDA Housing Scheme, and the Fawwara Chowk projects are pending for the past 10 years. Besides this, several government departments such as health, education, and even Metropolitan Corporation utilised the authority’s land to build establishments while the authority merely issued notices without any concrete action.

Furthermore, key posts, including that of the chief engineer, have been vacant for months and the authority is not paying any heed to fill them.

Meanwhile, RDA teams carried out a grand operation against illegal commercial constructions in different areas the other day wherein 10 plazas and 20 shops were sealed by the authority.

RDA Director General (DG) Abdul Sattar Isani ordered to conduct a grand operation. The authority sealed 10 plazas and 20 shops constructed illegally while six under-construction buildings on Morgah Road were also demolished as they were being built in violation of approved building plans.
