A day after being tested positive for the novel coronavirus, Prime Minister Imran Khan thanked his well-wishers for their good wishes and prayers.

“I want to thank everyone in Pakistan & abroad for their good wishes and prayers for the quick recovery of the first lady and I from Covid 19,” he said on Sunday in a tweet from his official handle.

Indian Premier Narendra Modi, Sri Lankan PM Mahinda Rajapaksa and several others foreign officials also wished PM Imran a speedy recovery from Covid-19.

"Best wishes to Prime Minister Imran Khan for a speedy recovery from Covid-19," Modi wrote on his official Twitter handle.

“Wishing Prime Minister @ImranKhanPTI a speedy and full recovery! Our thoughts and prayers are with him during this time of difficulty,” wrote the Lankan premier on Twitter.

On Saturday, Premier Imran has tested positive for the contagion, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Health Services Dr Faisal Sultan confirmed.

PM Imran along with First Lady Bushra Bibi tested positive for coronavirus on Saturday.

The news comes two days after the premier was vaccinated against the virus. However, the premier had received his first dose and not the second jab for the vaccine.

Dr Sultan said that the premier is now isolating at home.

The Ministry of National Health Services also clarified that the premier was "not fully vaccinated" when he contracted the virus. The ministry added that only the first dose was administered, which is "too soon for any vaccine to become effective".

It further added that anti-bodies against the virus develop 2-3 weeks after the second dose of the vaccine is administered.
