‘660MW to be added to national grid from Thar plants this year’

Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) and mass transit schemes were discussed during the meeting

KARACHI:

"An additional 660 megawatts of electricity will be added to the national grid from power plants in Thar this year," said the Sindh chief secretary Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah, addressing a meeting of the parliamentary committee on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) on Wednesday.

Shah extended an invitation to the members of the committee to visit the desert region, as he briefed them on the progress of CPEC projects undertaken by the Sindh government.

The Thar Coal project, special economic zones (SEZs), the Keti Bunder project, Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) and mass transit schemes were discussed during the meeting.

Briefing the parliamentary committee, the chief secretary said the Thar Coal project had the capacity to meet the electricity needs of the entire country.

The chief secretary invited the parliamentary committee to visit Thar and see the progress of projects there.
