Principals demand Ghani’s dismissal

Disgruntled government school principals, who were appointed after passing a test conducted by the Institute of Business Administration, Sukkur, and have been demanding regularisation, continued to stage a sit-in outside the Sindh Assembly on Wednesday- for the second consecutive day- and demanded Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani’s dismissal.

Prior to that, they had been holding demonstrations outside the Karachi Press Club for more than two weeks.

The protesters announced that they would end the demonstration only after their demands of regularisation and withdrawal of the condition of them sitting another test conducted by the Sindh Public Service Commission were met.

They threatened that they would set themselves on fire if their demands remained unmet.

A large contingent of police, along with water cannons, was also deployed outside the provincial assembly due to security concerns.

According to the protesters, 937 government teachers in Sindh had not been made permanent, despite passing a test conducted by the Institute of Business Administration, Sukkur. They called for passing a bill in the Sindh Assembly for their regularisation and issuing an official notification for the same.

They were of the view that Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani had passed the buck on the matter to the court and demanded his dismissal.

The protesters alleged the education department had submitted incomplete documents to the court and misled the Sindh High Court’s Karachi bench.

They said that one of the contradictory court orders issued by the Sindh High Court’s Karachi and Sukkur benches needed to be annulled.
