Walk-in vaccination of elderly begins

Over 300 unregistered persons aged 70 and above get jabs at Khaliq Dina Hall

Over 300 unregistered persons above the age of 70 were administered Sinopharm vaccine at Karachi’s Khaliq Dina Hall on Tuesday, marking the commencement of the inoculation of persons aged 70 and above against the coronavirus on walk-in basis.

The vaccination of unregistered persons was carried out alongside that of registered persons aged 60 and above.

Sindh Services Hospital medical superintendent said that the vaccination of elderly persons was in line with the directives of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) and all arrangements for the walk-in vaccination had been completed.

A total of 27 vaccination centres have been set up in Karachi and doctors and elderly persons are being inoculated in the first two phases of immunisation.

Moreover, the Sindh health department has decided to set up a mega vaccination centre at Dow International Dental College, where both registered and unregistered elderly persons will be administered the vaccine.

Health workers will not be vaccinated at the facility henceforth.

Sindh health secretary Dr Kazim Jatoi, Karachi health director Dr Ismail Memon and other relevant officials visited the facility on Tuesday, reviewed the arrangements and directed the relevant officer to make the vaccination centre functional within 24 hours.
