RAWALPINDI:

The City Traffic Police (CTP) has issued 1,328 challans on overspeeding and imposed fines on rules violators during the month of February, a spokesperson said on Tuesday. According to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rai Mazhar Iqbal, the CTP has been monitoring overspeeding on various roads of the district and taking action in accordance with the law against violators.

He informed that the squad conducted operations to check overspeeding through speed cameras on main roads, particularly old and new Airport Road and in other sectors, including Taxila, Kallar Syedan and Meharabad. The CTO said that CTP had formed a special camera squad to check overspeeding on various roads and the step had helped to control fatal road accidents considerably in the district.

Iqbal stated that the CTP had been making all-out efforts to control overspeeding and violation of traffic rules aimed at minimising road traffic accidents. He added that the camera squad had been directed to take strict action in accordance with the law against overspeeding and wrong overtaking.

Moreover, the CTP Education Wing was also making efforts to create awareness among road users about traffic rules. He advised the road users to observe traffic rules and cooperate with traffic wardens in order to reach their destinations safe and sound.

Furthermore, the CTP began supplying face masks and sanitisers at all check posts in Rawalpindi to protect traffic personnel from the novel coronavirus (Covid-19), an official said. They added that disinfectants were also being sprayed at the CTP Headquarters and all check posts daily so that the entire force can stay protected against the virus.

CTO Iqbal said that masks, gloves, and sanitisers have been distributed several times to prevent the spread of coronavirus so that the force and their families remain protected. He directed all DSPs and inspectors of the circle to brief all wardens to ensure the use of masks whilst on duties besides observing social distancing protocols.

The CTO further directed to refrain from offering services to visitors coming without face masks in the offices. He stated that the wardens in the field are playing the role of frontline soldiers and, therefore, they will ensure all possible measures for their health and welfare. At the same time, CTP is taking all kinds of effective measures for the recovery of officers and personnel infected with the virus, he added.
