UNESCO country director lauds youngsters

Water is the lifeblood of a nation for as we all know life cannot exist on the planet without this precious resource for which is why the world is combining its time energy and sustained efforts to conserve and channel freshwater resources. The Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) held on Monday an event, in connection with World Water Day, which is celebrated on March 22, in which the winners of two essay writing competitions were given prizes.

Highlighting this year's theme of 'Valuing Water', the celebration was held jointly in partnership with UNESCO Pakistan Office, the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), the Riphah Institute of Public Policy, The Asia Foundation, ICIMOD and Technology Times. Australian high Commissioner Dr Geoffery Shaw, as the chief guest, addressed the audience and mentioned long term partnerships of Australian and Pakistan governments in the water sector. Speaking on the occasion, UNESCO Country Director Patricia McPhillips said it is encouraging to see the involvement of young people in water resources education.
