Hospital forms three-member committee to investigate matter

A 30-year-old man died allegedly due to the administration of a wrong injection by the doctors at the emergency department of District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital on Monday.

The hospital administration has formed a three-member committee to investigate the matter. According to the relatives, Sheikh Kamran had suffered an injury in an accident. Doctors had stitched the wound and dressed it, they said adding that it was nothing serious and Kamran was absolutely healthy. He went to the DHQ Hospital on Monday to get the stitches removed, the relatives said, adding that the doctors administered him a wrong injection which proved fatal.

The family members of the deceased said that Kamran did not have any medical condition and he was about to get married next month. The victim’s relatives levelled serious allegations of criminal negligence against doctors and demand registration of a murder case against them. On the other hand, Dr Irfan Khilji, the focal person of the DHQ Hospital said that a three-member inquiry committee has been formed to probe into the allegations of the bereaved family.

The committee headed by DHQ Emergency Director Dr Khalid Abbas Janjua will include Additional Medical Superintendent (AMS) Dr Shoaib and DMS Dr Imran Gul. The committee has been directed to complete the investigation within three days. There will be strict action against those held responsible in the inquiry, Dr Khilji added. He said that in order to remove the stitches doctors usually administer local anaesthesia to the patients which never has proved to be fatal. However, the allegations levelled by Kamran’s family will be fully investigated, Dr Khilji said.
