Three acquitted in retired army officer’s murder case

Defence counsel termed allegations against accused “baseless”

KARACHI:

A model court acquitted three persons in the murder case of a retired Pakistan Army officer, Major (retd) Mushtaq Khan on Saturday, as the prosecution failed to prove the charges framed against the three men, Shakeel alias Kala, Mohammad Faisal alias Chitta and Mohammad Aslam.

At the hearing, the defence counsel, Advocate Imran Mayo, contended that there were contradiction in eyewitnesses’ statements and no evidence was presented to prove the accusations against his clients.

He termed the allegations against Shakeel, Faisal and Aslam “baseless”.

Announcing the verdict, the court stated that the police’s investigation of the case had been “poor” and that the accused be acquitted.

Shakeel, Faisal and Aslam were booked in the murder case at Korangi Industrial Area Police Station on January 18, 2020.
