KARACHI:

Turkey wants to expand cooperation with Pakistan in the technology sector, said Turkish Consul General in Karachi Tolga Ucak.

Talking to industrialists at the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), the consul general said that his country would like to expand relations with Pakistan in the field of technology and vocational training.

He said that Turkish investors had a keen interest in the industrial sector of Pakistan, especially food, textile and chemical, which were some of the priority areas. “Turkey and Pakistan should enhance cooperation in technology transfer and sharing,” he added.

He said that Turkey was working to introduce educational and vocational training programmes in Pakistan. “Turkey can provide huge industrial machinery to Pakistan and this opportunity of mutual cooperation between the two countries should be explored.”

He added that for more trade between Turkey and Pakistan, there was a need to set up a Turkish bank here, so “we can establish better and smooth banking and transaction channels”.

Also speaking on the occasion, KATI President Saleemuz Zaman briefed the consul general about the economic significance and production capabilities of Korangi Industrial Area.

He said that there were a number of Turkish companies working successfully in Pakistan and there was a great potential to increase the volume of bilateral trade.

KATI Standing Committee on Diplomatic Affairs chief Rashid Siddiqui said that now Turkey was one of the competitors of Europe in technology and “we can enhance our relations in this sector”. He emphasised that a commercial consulate of Turkey should be established in Pakistan to enhance bilateral trade.
