PIE to be established as a research centre

The institute will be established with the help of the World Bank, costing USD 500 million

ISLAMABAD:

The government has decided to set up the Pakistan Institute of Education (PIE) that will work as a think tank and a research centre in the field of education.

The federal cabinet approved sending the summary to the cabinet committee of law while a final approval will be given by the Parliament, a spokesperson said on Tuesday, adding that the cabinet also approved the framework for out-of-school children.

The institute will be established with the help of the World Bank, costing USD 500 million, which will update the data of government and private educational institutions, including madrasas on modern requirements.

The Academy of Educational Planning and Management (AEPAM) and the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) will be merged to form an independent body.
