‘Habitual car-lifter’ who practices law held in Karachi

The suspect would steal cars to cover his expenses while practicing law, cops claim

KARACHI:

A car thief, who has eight prior arrests and practices law, was caught red-handed stealing a vehicle, said Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell officials on Tuesday.

According to the AVLC, the suspect, identified as Ayub Malik Mohana, was wanted in car theft cases dating as far back as 2009.

The police said that Mohana would use his credentials and “lawyers uniform” to bypass security checks and toll plazas.

The suspect would steal cars to cover his expenses while practicing law, claimed the cops.

They added that initial investigations suggest he would use the key of Suzuki Mehran to open the locks of Toyota Corollas and then sell them to a buyer, identified as Haji, in Jhat Pat, Balochistan.

The AVLC Police claimed to have recovered a vehicle stolen from the limits of Aziz Bhatti Police Station.

Last month, a police officer deputed in the anti-vehicle lifting cell in Karachi's SITE area was shot dead by unidentified suspects.

The incident occurred near Khattak Chowk of the Metroville area. The assailants opened fire at the 30-year old constable and fled from the scene.

Contingents of police and Rangers rushed to the place of the incident. Police found emptied shells of a 9mm pistol as well as the constable's gun from the scene.
