Poultry prices double in two months

Official price list shows Lahore admin fixed chicken meat’s rate at Rs365 per kg

LAHORE:

Prices of almost all perishable commodities, including poultry, fruits and vegetables, have been jacked up across Pakistan owing to the absence of an efficient price control system.

The chicken meat rate has reached a new high as its price doubled during the past two months on the pretext of ‘high demand’ in the market.

Market survey shows that poultry meat was traded between Rs365 to Rs430 per kilogramme (kg) in different areas of the city. Reportedly, official price list shows that district administration had fixed poultry meat rate at Rs252 per kg for live bird and Rs365 per kg for chicken meat.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Muhammad Hanif, a poultry farmer, said, “Owing to wedding season, demand of poultry meat is really high in the market, especially after Covid-19 lockdown restrictions were eased.”

Market survey indicates profiteering was rampant owing to negligence of price control authorities. Several citizens complained that price of perishable seasonal produce is increasing every day.
