RAWALPINDI:

Following the directives of Adviser to Punjab Chief Minister and Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Rawalpindi Chairman Asif Mehmood, the authority is installing birdhouses at different places to save the birds from inclement weather conditions.

Speaking to the media, PHA Rawalpindi Vice Chairman Malik Abid Hussain said they had made the decision in order to protect the birds.

He informed the media that special poles mounting beautiful birdhouses in attractive colours have been installed at Moti Mehal, Rialto Park.

He said the PHA was making efforts to make the city beautiful and green. "Our birdhouses project will help bring back the birds in city areas and the residents will enjoy the melodious chirps of the beautiful birds in the natural environment," he added.

He pointed out that birdhouses were being established well before the breeding season.

To a question, he said that several sites, including Allama Iqbal Park, Liaquat Bagh, Rashid Minhas Road and PHA parks, will be installed with birdhouses to attract certain kinds of birds.

Hussain added that a number of birdhouses had been installed in Allama Iqbal Park while the project was under way at Rashid Minhas Road and several other areas.

To another question, he said the PHA was making all-out efforts to turn the city into a green town. He said the authority had kicked off the Plantation Campaign, under the Clean and Green Pakistan Programme.

"Students, traders, social and political leaders and civil society members are also being encouraged to participate in the campaign.
