Small and medium enterprise (SME) industry stakeholders have demanded simplification and relaxation in taxes besides enhanced access to financing. At a three-day pre-budget consultative session conducted by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda), its CEO Hashim Raza said that the authority had moved to facilitate the creation of a business environment conducive for the SMEs. He said that the private sector had an important role to play in sustainable development in the country. The input received from the private sector would form the basis of formulating recommendations for federal government’s consideration for the upcoming federal budget in order to provide necessary support for the SMEs in such critical times, he added.
