FM says Pakistan has transformed its geo-political priorities into geo-economic priorities

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Wednesday said that Pakistan is standing side by side with Sri Lanka as a partner for the development of human resources, security cooperation, fighting terrorism, development and prosperity.

FM Qureshi is accompanying Prime Minister Imran Khan who is on a two-day official visit to Sir Lanka on the invitation of the country's premier Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Speaking on the occasion, the Sri Lankan foreign minister said that PM Imran's visit would help in strengthening bilateral ties and cooperation.

Later, briefing the media about PM's visit, the foreign minister said that Pakistan has transformed its geo-political priorities into geo-economic priorities.

"During the visit, we exchanged views on the enhancement of bilateral trade and investment with Sri Lanka," Qureshi added.

FM Qureshi further said that defence and security cooperation to end the menace of terrorism are of equal importance to both Pakistan and Sri Lanka and "we have offered the country a credit line of $15 million in this regard".

Qureshi said Pakistan has decided to give 100 scholarships to Sri Lankan students in the top medical institutes of the country.

A day earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan said he “enjoyed the welcoming hospitality” and “gala dinner” hosted by the Lankan premier.

“It's a pleasure to be back in Sri Lanka again,” PM Imran wrote on the microblogging site, Twitter, on Tuesday.

“My earlier two visits were on cricket tours in '75 & '86 where I witnessed the evolution of Sri Lankan cricket, he said.
