Dharejo urges SC to stop rigging in Senate polls

PPP rejects the presidential ordinance for open ballot in Senate polls says provincial minister

KARACHI:

Sindh Industries and Commerce Minister Jam Ikramullah Dharejo dubbed on Sunday the promulgation of a presidential ordinance for open ballot in the Senate election before the issuance of the Supreme Court’s judgment on a reference regarding the same “the beginning of rigging.”

In a statement, the minister appealed to the apex court to take immediate notice of the matter and take measures to bring the rigging, which began ahead of the Senate election, to an end.

He further stated, “The Pakistan Peoples Party rejects the presidential ordinance for open ballot in Senate polls as the decree is based on malicious intent.”

Dharejo termed the promulgation of the ordinance “a failed attempt by the federal government at quelling the insurgency within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).”

“The incompetence of the selected government has angered its [the PTI’s] lawmakers and the presidential ordinance was issued in them,” he added.

He went on to attribute the failure of the PTI in by-elections to its “incompetence”, adding that the incumbent federal government was now making “confused decisions.”
