Lauren Marsden of 'Survive' to join Iman Vellani in ‘Ms. Marvel’

Marsden will essay comic book character Zoe Zimmer, who is for Kamala what Flash Thompson is for Peter Parker

Lauren Marsden, who had previously appeared in Quibi's Survive opposite Sophie Turner, will now join Iman Vellani in Ms. Marvel.

Marsden will be essaying the comic book character Zoe Zimmer in the upcoming series, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Like Vellani, Marsden is also a newcomer in Hollywood, who has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the Disney+ series that revolves around the teenage Pakistani superhero Kamala Khan (played by Vellani).

Marvel declined to comment on news about the newly added cast member.

Marsden previously appeared opposite Turner in Survive, albeit, the web series was short-lived. Her performance, however, generated some attention and put her in the mix for larger projects, with Ms. Marvel her highest-profile to date.

Writer G. Willow Wilson and artist Adrian Alphona introduced Zoe Zimmer in 2014's Ms. Marvel No. 3 as the first person Kamala Khan saves. In the comic world, Zoe Zimmer is for Kamala what Flash Thompson is for Peter Parker — sometimes a bully, sometimes a friend.

Ms. Marvel is slated to release late in 2021 on Disney+, and is currently in production in Atlanta. Head writer Bisha K. Ali oversees the series, which is directed by Bad Boys for Life filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, as well as Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, a two-time Oscar winner in the documentary short category, and The Walking Dead helmer Meera Menon.

Marvel launched its first scripted series in January with WandaVision, which has two episodes left in its season. Other Marvel shows slated for this year include Falcon & The Winter Soldier (March 18), Loki (May), What If...? and Hawkeye.

Marsden is represented by Encompass and Zero Gravity Management.
