CDWP okays two projects worth Rs5b

Recommends three schemes of Rs53.5 billion to ECNEC for review

ISLAMABAD:

The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) on Monday approved two development projects worth Rs5 billion and recommended three other projects worth Rs53.5 billion to the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (Ecnec) for further consideration.

Projects related to agriculture and food, governance, transport and communications were presented in a CDWP meeting, chaired by Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan.

One project related to agriculture and food titled “Gwadar-Lasbela Livelihood Support Project Phase-II” worth Rs12.328 billion was referred to Ecnec for its approval.

The project will have a holistic poverty graduation approach covering all households. It will revamp the large footprint and ensure participation of all households as members.

Moreover, a comprehensive three-pronged development of fisheries value chain will be pursued combining the value chain development package, infrastructure upgrade and supportive policy.

A scheme related to governance titled “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Unit in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (UNDP-Assisted)-1 Revised” worth Rs700.268 million was approved in the meeting.

The objective of the project is to mainstream SDGs in local development plans and strategies clearly delineating resource requirements, strengthening institutional coordination, reporting and monitoring mechanism for SDGs, financing for SDGs and supporting integrated and innovative approaches to accelerate progress on the SDGs.

Three projects related to transport and communication were presented in the meeting. First project titled “Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Roads Rehabilitation Project under PKHA Portfolio” worth Rs28.155 billion was recommended to Ecnec for further consideration.

A revised PC-1 of the project envisages rehabilitation of 274 km of the existing provincial highway network of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The scheme also includes construction of bridges, culverts, drainage, erosion and ancillary works along with allied facilities.

Another project named “Up-gradation of Road from RCC Konodas Bridge to Naltar Airforce Base Camp via Nomal” with a revised cost of Rs4.286 billion was approved and third project titled “Feasibility Study and Dualisation of Mardan Swabi Road” worth Rs13.024 billion was recommended to Ecnec for approval.
