The apex civic body and the top art council of the capital have joined hands to arrange open air instrumental music performances by leading artistes.
Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) in collaboration with the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has organised special instrumental performances titled "Celebrating Music of Pakistan" in public places, especially in large markets, to promote the music of Pakistan.
The objective is to support and promote musicians, who are a valuable part of Pakistani cultural heritage, said a statement issued by PNCA. This initiative is part of PNCA's post coronavirus pandemic efforts, where the council is trying to support culture industry and artistes who have suffered deeply during the two phases of lockdowns imposed by the government to contain the pandemic.
The ban on public gatherings, like musical events, under the social-distancing directives left most of the musicians unemployed. “As the nation comes out of corona's impact, we want to inculcate hope in our society and fully support our artist,” PNCA said.
Similarly, the management of Capital Development Authority (CDA) said that it has started preparations to celebrate spring in a different manner this year.
CDA will organise celebrations in collaboration with other government and non-government agencies, including the Environment Department, to provide recreational facilities to the citizens of the federal capital on the occasion of a spring festival over the coming weekend, said a spokesman on Sunday.
In this regard, the authority has invited artistes playing traditional musical instruments to perform in the major markets of the city, the official maintained.
Local maestro of violin will spread enchanting tunes for the public at Jinnah Supermarket and a santoor player will perform at Kohsar Market. The musical shows will be performed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 6pm to 8pm.
The authority will also hold a flower show in March to further enhance the beauty on the spring festival while instrumental music, theatre, poetry and other events will be organised for which local, national and International artists and poets will be invited, the official informed.
They said that the purpose of holding such events is to highlight culture and traditions by providing affordable, quality and positive recreational facilities to the citizens.
