Over Rs47m recovered in duty, tax evasion cases
The Directorate of Post Clearance Audit (North), a subsidiary of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), has recovered Rs47.759 million from various importers in 49 cases of customs duty and tax evasion amounting to a total of Rs2.17 billion during the fiscal year 2020-21 up till January.
According to a statement issued by the directorate, the recoveries were made possible as a result of proactive approach, regular follow-up of cases by the team of officers and staff of the directorate despite acute human resource and logistics constraints.
The directorate has sent audit observations regarding 63 cases of customs duty and tax evasion amounting to Rs1.46 billion to the FBR.
The statement added that based upon risk parameters, a number of sectors ie telecommunication, aircraft, imports from Afghanistan based upon certificates of origin, etc were identified and detections worth Rs3.16 billion were made.
It stated that the highest number of 198 audit observations and 91 reports of violation of customs rules were detected during the financial year 2017-18.
An amount of Rs181.26 million was recovered from various importers in 91 cases of customs duty and tax evasion during the said period and deposited in the national treasury.
