Cholistan Desert Jeep Rally begins today

The 16th Cholistan Desert Jeep Rally will be held from February 11 to February 14 in the Cholistan region.

Bahawalpur Commissioner Zafar Iqbal said all arrangements have finalised to hold the rally keeping in views coronavirus standard operating procedures (SOPs).

The commissioner said that in wake of the coronavirus situation, there will be no cultural or musical show at the rally. “The Cholistan desert rally is being held in order to promote healthy sports activities.”

However, events including dirt bike race, the lit up of Derawar Fort and fireworks will be part of 16th Cholistan Desert Rally, he added. “For the first time, desert paragliding race has been included in the grand event.” A control room will be set up at Commissioner Office for the rally.

Cholistan Desert Rally started back in 2005 and has since grown in leaps and bounds. The rally covers three districts of Punjab, including Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalnagar, and Bahawalpur. More than 100 Racers from all over Pakistan will challenge the sand of the Cholistan in different categories.

The Rally route has been extended to 500 kilometres in the Cholistan Desert and also includes major forts of the desert (Dingarh Fort, Marrot Fort, Khan Garh, Bhijnot Fort, Moujgarh Fort and Jamgarh Fort.
