Fashion designer Mohsin Naveed Ranjha addresses discrimination in fashion fraternity of Pakistan

Lahore-based designer Mohsin Naveed Ranjha (MNR) is commonly known for his traditional craft and the bold colour palette. But soon enough, he ought to be celebrated for much more.

During the recently-concluded 17th Bridal Couture Week (BCW), many budding designers became the target of discernment from the fashion industry. MNR took it into account and addressed the unfairness. “There is no debut designer that does not get hate for the art they produce,” began the fashion guru in reference to the heavy discrimination faced by emerging talent locally and internationally. “I have struggled to make a name for myself. The hardships that paved the way and the challenges that brought me to the point I am at today, made me promise myself in the past that whatever is destined to happen, and if by the will of God, I ever get to make a name, I’d help promote local art and artisanship.”

MNR now is a celebrity favourite, having showcased his work through the likes of Mahira Khan, Sonya Hussyn, Naimal Khawar, Maya Ali and many more. In the detailed caption, he mentioned that seeing the sheer mockery made out of the debut designers at BCW last week has left him shattered and utterly disappointed. “Liking or disliking someone’s work is totally subjective but putting someone down and disrespecting them is something that made me want to address this issue.”

He further highlighted the hard work, dedication and labour each outfit takes to be made. “I Mohsin and my brother Abubakar, along with my entire team, welcome and encourage anyone that needs help with establishing their businesses, designing their collection or help in any regard. You are welcome to contact us and reach out. We would feel happy to help, regardless of the scale and experience, and inculcate a culture of love, friendship and togetherness,” added the couturier. “We’ve had enough of the bullying and disrespect in the name of criticism!”

MNR also received a pat on the back from superstar Hareem Farooq, who praised the act of goodwill.
