RCB to charge parking fee on seven main roads
People parking their vehicles on any of the seven main roads within the limits of the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) will have to pay parking charges.
According to a notification issued by RCB, all the seven major roads in the jurisdiction of the board and the Singapore Plaza have been designated as a regular commercial parking area. The said roads include Saddar Road, Bank Road, Adamjee Road, Hospital Road, Haider Road, Kashmir Road and Canning Road.
The board will hold a public auction for the rights to collect the parking fee for the current financial year and the next one till June 30, 2022, to meet its growing fiscal deficit, officials told The Express Tribune. The bidding for the parking fee collection contracts will be held on February 15, 16, and 17.
This year, parking fees have also been increased substantially causing concern among shoppers and shopkeepers alike.
As per RCB notification, people parking their cars for up to two hours will be charged Rs50. Whether one parks the car for five minutes or two hours parking fee will be Rs50. For more than two hours till 24 hours, the parking fee will be Rs100.
Regular time and fee amount will be mentioned on the parking slip. The parking fee for the motorcycle will be Rs20 for the first two hours and then Rs40 for the rest of the day.
