Ban sought on F-9 park drive-in cinema in Islamabad

Court refers matter to CDA

ISLAMABAD:

After hearing a petition demanding a ban on the drive-in cinema set up at the capital’s F-9 Park, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) referred the matter to the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah on Tuesday heard the petition calling for the closure of the open-air cinemas in the federal capital.

The court directed the CDA chairman to issue a written order on the matter after hearing the applicant.

As per details, the petitioner’s lawyer, Yasir Chaudhry, appeared before the court and said that the drive-in cinema launched on December 19 at the F-9 Park was only a source of entertainment for the people who owned vehicles.

He added that the drive-in cinema was a commercial activity that was prohibited at public parks according to the Supreme Court’s orders.

The petition held that running a cinema at a public park caused environmental pollution as well.

After the conclusion of the arguments, the court referred the matter to the CDA chairman and directed him to issue a written order.
