My culture is my asset, not my definition: Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka Chopra Jonas has graced the cover for a renowned global fashion magazine, sporting a cropped hairdo in bold garments. As part of the feature, The White Tiger actor got candid and opened up about her vision for her Hollywood career, and how she doesn't want to be "docile but bold" as an actor.
Chopra Jonas had shared multiple pictures from the monochrome photoshoot for Elle UK's March issue on social media. With this, she opened up on her interaction with film crew in the US. “I came in and I said, 'I don’t mind putting my head down, working, auditioning, learning how to speak in an American accent.' I wanted to play parts. I don’t want to be defined by where I come from. I want to play leads."
The superstar was clear-cut about stereotypical roles often given to her on the bases of the fact that she is Indian, “I don’t want to do the extra Indian accent. If my character was born and brought up in the UK or in the US, why would she speak like that? Why would you wear a bindi? It’s a silly, stereotypical thing. I defied a lot of that and now, I’m reaching a point in Hollywood where my culture is my asset instead of my definition."
Chopra Jonas is currently basking praises for streaming service Netflix’s The White Tiger. Herein, she plays the role of an Indian-American married to an Indian man (Rajkummar Rao).
