ISLAMABAD:

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday opposed any open hearing of the foreign funding case and provision of copies of the record submitted by it to the petitioner, Akbar S Babar.

The matter was raised during a hearing of the scrutiny committee of the Election Commission of Pakistan. Petitioner Babar appeared before the committee along with his lawyer, Ahmed Hassan. PTI’s lawyer Shah Khawar along with the finance team also attended the hearing.

Petitioner Akbar Babar appeared before the scrutiny commission along with his lawyer Ahmed Hassan and PTI lawyer Shah Khawar's finance team. During the hearing, the PTI lawyer denied a statement of Prime Minister Imran Khan regarding open hearing of the case.

The lawyer, while opposing the open hearing, said that the ECP had already given its ruling on the matter. He also opposed the request for provision of a copy of record submitted by the PTI to the petitioner. The committee said that it will decide the matter on February 9.

Later, talking to media, Babar said that Imran Khan had announced in Wana that all the details of this case should be made public but the PTI denied the prime minister’s statement. He added that the PTI had been keeping the documents secret for three years.

“We have the record of the money received by the PTI through Hundi,” he said, adding that on the next hearing, the PTI would decide whether or not it would hand over its record with the petitioner or not.
