NICVD guard beaten up after denying entry to visitors

Hospital admin states one of the culprits caught while his accomplices opened fire and fled

KARACHI:

Four intoxicated men reportedly attempted to enter the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) on Sunday and beat up the security guard when they were prevented from entering.

According to the hospital administration, the men arrived in a car in intoxicated condition and tried to enter the facility, near Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, but their intention was unclear. They beat up the security guard and another person and then opened fire while fleeing. The NICVD administration further stated that one of the culprits was caught by the security guards while his accomplices opened fire and fled. The detained suspect, identified as Ahmer, was handed over to the police, they said, adding that the suspects' car bore the nameplate of a political party.

Meanwhile, Saddar SHO Inspector Arshad Afridi stated that the men were attempting to enter the facility to visit a patient but were stopped by the security guards as it was after visiting hours. They opened fire while fleeing, he said, adding that no casualties were reported. The police have launched an investigation but no arrests have been made as yet, said the SHO.

Speaking to The Express Tribune Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf MPA Raja Azhar condemned the incident and said that he was outside the paediatric ward when the incident occured. The elements involved in the act should be strictly penalised, he said.
