‘Comprehensive strategy to save youth from drugs’

Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has said that Punjab government decided to form a joint strategy with the federal government

Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Information Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has said that Punjab government decided to form a joint strategy with the federal government in the light of national anti-drug policy. “The Punjab government is fully cooperating with the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) in its anti-drug operations. A comprehensive strategy will protect and save our future generations from the menace of drug addiction.”

These views were expressed by the Special Assistant to CM during a press conference flanked by Punjab Police Information Officer DIG Operations Sohail Akhtar Sukhera at DGPR.

The SACM further said, “As many as 679 cases are registered against the suspects and 787 people were arrested in Punjab during the past two years.”

She added that 861 kgs of heroin, 6,159 kgs of hashish, 1,341kgs of opium, 3.46kgs of cocaine, 3.25 kgs of marijuana, 864 kgs of cannabis and 120 kgs of other narcotics were seized and action was taken against the accused.

The special assistant remarked that the previous governments had failed to take action against drug peddlers and traffickers and refrained police to take action against the culprits.
