Cut off all boring connections from Malir River: SHC

The Sindh High Court ordered on Thursday that all water boring connections be cut off immediately and directed the Korangi and Malir deputy commissioners to take action against the cultivation of vegetables using toxic water.
A two-member bench, comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Amjad Ali Sahito, was informed by the Korangi DC that 50 water boring connections from Malir River had been cut off. He stated that some elements were supplying boring water to the industries.
How could anyone use water from there, the bench asked.
The Malir DC stated that vegetables cultivated using poisonous water on 80acres of land have been removed.
The bench directed the authorities to take a final action on the matter and cut off all boring connections from Malir River and submit a report.
The court combined all the relevant pleas and sought a detailed reply by February 17.
Blocked for traffic
The same bench issued notices to the provincial chief secretary, home secretary, the traffic police DIG, East DC and the Sindh advocate-general over a plea against the blockage of roads around National Stadium during test cricket matches between Pakistan and South Africa.
The petitioner's counsel argued that main roads have been blocked for 25 days causing extreme difficulties for commuters. Barricading roads is a violation of Supreme Court's verdict on a case pertaining to sit-ins, contended the counsel. He prayed the court to direct the authorities to open the blocked roads for traffic immediately.
The bench issued notices to the parties, seeking their replies by February 4.
