Denmark to invest in cold storage facilities

Eyes Pakistan’s dairy sector to help enhance farm income

ISLAMABAD:

Denmark is keen to invest in Pakistan for establishing cold storage facilities for milk and other dairy products in order to promote value addition, which will enhance farm income, said Danish Ambassador Lis Rosenholm.

During a meeting with Minister for National Food Security and Research Syed Fakhar Imam, the two sides discussed ways and means for further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

Imam assured the ambassador that efforts would be made for further cementing bilateral ties through enhanced foreign direct investment by the two countries.

The minister stressed the need for technological advancement, genetic engineering and enhanced cooperation in research and development to exploit the full potential of livestock and dairy production.

He highlighted the significance of research, especially in the agriculture sector, and discussed student exchange programmes among universities and vocational training institutes.

The ambassador noted that Pakistan had potential in the dairy sector and emphasised the need for focusing on promotion of value addition of products.

Both sides realised that the student exchange programme was limited and decided to further expand it as it would help strengthen bilateral relationship.
