Railways at risk of Rs130m loss as ticketing system comes to a halt

The reservation system is not functioning for the past 24 hours owing to a technical fault

The reservation of tickets at Pakistan Railways has come to a standstill due to a technical fault in the system, putting the ministry at a risk of losing Rs130million, Express News reported.

The administration of railways has been unable to rectify the fault in the system despite the passage of more than 24 hours, the report added.

The passengers have been perturbed due to the situation, with some instances of verbal scuffles with the staff. Many passengers have been forced to travel without a ticket. So far, there has been no official word on the situation, which remains uncertain.

On Monday, Federal Minister for Railways Azam Khan Swati informed the National Assembly that Pakistan Railways has been running in deficit for the past 15 years.

While responding to a question during the question hour, the minister shared details of the deficit of Pakistan Railways from 2004-05 to 2019-20.

According to the written answer, railways’ deficit was Rs3.2 billion in 2004-05, which rose to Rs9.1 billion in the next year and continued rising year after year.
