It has been decided to form the Potohar Water Board to ensure fair distribution of water in Rawalpindi and Islamabad from Rawal Dam, Khanpur Dam and, in future, Chirah, Chehan and Daducha dams.
The board will be a joint forum of the federal and Punjab governments to ensure water distribution according to fixed shares.
Currently, objections persist among CDA, WASA and Rawalpindi and Chaklala Cantonment Boards regarding water share from Rawal and Khanpur dams. To resolve the issue on a fair basis, both governments agreed to establish the board.
Punjab has passed a resolution and sent the case to the federal govt for legislation, seeking 51% representation in the board, with 49% for the federation.
