The Sindh High Court directed the relevant authorities on Tuesday to issue the results of the 2017 census after discussing the matter in the next Council of Common Interests (CCI) meeting.

It was hearing a plea pertaining to the census and local government elections.

The petitioner maintained that the issuance of census results was not linked to local government elections and moved it to direct the relevant authorities to hold the polls soon.

The assistant attorney general informed the court that the federal cabinet had approved the census results.

Moreover, a report by the federal government was submitted to the court.

The report stated that the issue was to be taken up at the next CCI meeting.

At this, the court asked why the meeting was being delayed.

It then directed the relevant authorities to issue census results after discussing the matter at the next CCI meeting and adjourned the hearing until February 24.
