LAHORE:

Lawmakers from both the treasury and opposition benches in Punjab Assembly, as well as Speaker Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, raised questions over the law and order situation in the province on Monday.

PTI’s MPA Ahmed Shah Khagga came down hard on his own government, claiming his family was made hostage and looted, while the robbers easily managed to escape later. “They carried guns but my family has not even a licence of slingshot,” he said.

He demanded the formation of a committee under supervision of Law Minister Raja Basharat to probe into the incident.

He also demanded issuance of five to six licences of Kalashnikovs to each MPA so that they could protect themselves.

Another PTI MPA, Saeed Akbar Khan Nawani, also criticised the poor law and order situation in the province.

Speaker Pervez Elahi grilled the law minister, claiming he had not seen such a poor condition of law and order in last 40 years.

“Raja Sahib you would have to answer why people looting buses easily managed to escape,” he said, adding that a number of such incidents had been reported but no punishment was awarded.
