CDWP okays Rs3.25b worth of projects

Also endorses concept clearance proposal under JICA

ISLAMABAD:

The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) on Monday approved two projects worth Rs3.25 billion and agreed on one concept clearance proposal worth Rs808 million under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for further processing.

The meeting, chaired by Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan, discussed projects related to devolution and area development, and water resources.

The CDWP approved a project related to devolution and area development namely “Tor Gar Integrated Development Project” worth Rs202.80 million. The project is aimed at making the area accessible for the local administration by providing better infrastructure facilities (DWSS, irrigation channels) and an alternative source of income, through good agricultural practices and natural resource management.

This will improve living standards of people at gross roots level and will also create an environment conducive for economic development.

The CDWP agreed on a project related to water resources namely “Construction of Small Storages/ Delay Action Dams in District Khuzdar, Balochistan” worth Rs3,056.075 million.

The project is aimed at ensuring the storage of floodwater rising from ground water table and protection of agricultural land downstream of proposed dams. The scheme will provide safety from flood damage and will improve socio-economic conditions of people in the area. The scope of this project involves construction of 10 small dams at different locations in Khuzdar.

The forum also approved one concept clearance proposal under JICA, namely “Upgrade and Modernisation of Flood Forecasting & Warning System for Lai Nulllah Basin in Islamabad-Rawalpindi” worth Rs808 million.
