‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans create panic ahead of India’s republic day

New Delhi police arrest five people including women for raising ‘long live Pakistan’ slogans at India Gate

Five people were detained in Indian capital New Delhi for allegedly raising ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans in the wee hours of Sunday, creating panic just days ahead of the country’s republic day, local media reported.

The police reached Delhi’s Khan Market area after receiving a complaint that a few people were raising 'Pakistan Zindabad' slogans.

Two men and three women along with their families were under investigation in connection with the incident, according to India Today.

The New Delhi police received a call at around 1am at Tughlaq Road police station that a few people were raising 'Pakistan Zindabad' near Khan Market metro station.

The enquiry officer reached the spot and found two men, three women, and a teenager on Yulu bikes.

On inquiry, they said they had come for sightseeing around India Gate and had rented Yulu bikes. They claimed they started racing on the Yulu bikes and had been calling each other by the names of different countries, including Pakistan.

During a race, they addressed one person as Pakistan and eventually raised 'Pakistan Zindabad' slogans upon his victory.

All of them are being currently questioned in connection with the incident, said police.

"It was found that during racing on rental bikes, they kept each other's names based on countries including Pakistan. The slogan was raised in a lighter vein," a police official was quoted by ANI as saying.
