‘The Winx Club’ v ‘The Winx Saga’: What’s different between classic, latest versions?

If you ended up loving Netflix’s take on Fate: The Winx Saga, then there’s a high chance you grew up binge watching Winx Club in your childhood. But the new show has incorporated some major changes that have caught the attention of fans. As compiled from Seventeen, here are all the major differences between The Winx Club and Fate: The Winx Saga.

·  Flora v Terra

Fans had pointed out a drastic difference between Flora and Terra since the show’s cast was announced. This garnered some criticism online as the original character had been whitewashed following the claims. Flora was portrayed as a Latina in the series, being inspired by Jennifer Lopez. Fans were upset over the change due to influence, completely misrepresenting the existing character.

· Trix v. Beatrix

The original Winx Club animation highlighted Trix as the main villain who lead the trio of witches. In any fairy-based series or films, the narrative is usually based on the ‘fairies v witches’ trope. However, in the case of Winx Club Saga, Beatrix was seen ‘inspired’ by the witches as she works against Headmistress Dowling to unveil secrets of Alfea.

· Anyone Can Be a Fairy or Specialist

To support inclusivity and diversity, the writers of Winx Club Saga twisted the character arc by introducing all-encompassing roles. In the original, women were only fairies and specialists were men to divide the two binary genders. In the new adaptation, genders no longer matter.

· Fairy transformations

One’s favourite memory of Winx Club has to be the incredible transformation of fairies, be it Bloom, Stella, Musa, Tecna or Flora. However, in the series, only Bloom is able to transform in the finale where one can see her gaining wings.  The transformation sequence also got criticised for not holding the ‘charm’ as the animation did.
