Marigold festival comes to a close

Citizens marvelled at the corner of the historical gardens painted gold with marigold flowers

KARACHI:

The marigold festival held at Frere Hall by the city authorities came to a close on Sunday after three days of merriment.

Citizens marvelled at the corner of the historical gardens painted gold with marigold flowers by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation's parks and horticulture. Different varieties of the flower - maroon, gold and orange were set up. Other nurseries and florists in the city also put floral arrangements on display.

Burhan Khan, a fifth grader and visitor, said that he would be decorating his home with flowers purchased from the stalls set up at the festival.

"[More] attention should be diverted to plants so that the entire city can be made beautiful. Pollution will also reduce," said Batool, an elderly woman, who was enjoying the sweet fragrance emitting from the flowers. Children should be taught how to nurture flowers, not just memorise their names and colours, she added.

Similarly, Tabussum Khanum, a housewife said that such festivals should be held annually. "They help increase knowledge and create a good environment. No [other] amusement spot can offer such an experience," she opined.

An employee of the KMC, tasked with the upkeep and care of the flowers on display, observed that the citizens had flocked from across the city to appreciate the first-of-its-kind festival. The KMC plans on making the festival an annual event.
