LAHORE:

An anti-narcotics court on Saturday adjourned hearing of a drug-trafficking case against former minister Rana Sanaullah till February 4.

A prosecutor on behalf of Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) provided copies of statements of witnesses to the defence counsel at the start of the proceedings, in accordance with previous court orders.

As the proceedings commenced, accused Sanaullah’s counsel complained of not being provided ‘clearly readable copies’ of the statements that were recorded in the case. However, the prosecutor argued that the copies were readable and anyone could read them if they wanted.

Judge Shakir Hasan directed the ANF prosecutor to provide by February 4 the ‘boiled statements’ to PML-N Punjab president Rana Sanaullah.

According to the FIR registered by Deputy Director Operations Anti-Narcotics Force on July 1, 2019 the ANF officials arrested Rana Sanaullah, who served as the Punjab law minister during the former PML-N government, from Islamabad-Lahore Motorway near Sukheki, while he was traveling from Faisalabad to Lahore.

The ANF had registered the FIR against the PML-N leader under sections 9-C, 15 and 17 of the Control of Narcotic Substances Act. It was alleged that the ANF had recovered 15 kilogrammes of heroin and other drugs from Sanaullah’s car.
